Hesburgh Libraries

English Language and Literature

Hesburgh Libraries’ collections and services support English and literature research at Notre Dame. English language and literature collections, including American and worldwide Anglophone writings, are concentrated on the 9th Floor of the Hesburgh Library, with additional resources spread throughout the building, especially on the 5th Floor and 8th Floor. Many historical primary texts and unique manuscripts can be found in Rare Books & Special Collections, while Old- and Middle-English holdings are available at the Medieval Institute Library. English books and periodicals cover a broad range of time periods and places, and are available in print, online, and microform formats.

The Librarian for English language and literature, Dan Johnson, provides in-person and virtual research consultations to students and faculty in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings. His areas of expertise include finding and evaluating sources and working with digital texts.
