Hesburgh Libraries

Latin American, Iberian, and Latinx Studies

The multi-disciplinary Latin American, Iberian, and Latinx Studies collections in the Hesburgh Libraries are tailored to support research from the undergraduate to faculty level. Hesburgh Libraries General Collections include print books and journals as well as digital books, databases, and other electronic resources. Additionally, the Department of Rare Books & Special Collections holds extensive unique and primary source materials created in and/or about these areas of study, with special strengths in Peruvian, Southern Cone, and Caribbean histories and literatures.

The research guides listed below provide in-depth guidance for locating and utilizing Hesburgh Libraries collections and resources in the various disciplines and regions covered under the rubric of Latin American, Iberian, and Latinx Studies. As tools to increase discoverability and accessibility, they are necessarily works-in-progress: existing research guides will be periodically revised and augmented, and new research guides will be added.

Payton Phillips Quintanilla is the Curator and Librarian for Latin American, Iberian, and Latinx Studies (the latter in collaboration with Rachel Bohlmann, American History Librarian and Curator of North Americana). She provides individualized research support to faculty, students, and visiting researchers, as well as hands-on classroom instruction within Rare Books and Special Collections. Payton welcomes collaborations—with faculty, graduate students, and other campus and community stakeholders—in the design and implementation of experiential learning opportunities based in Rare Books and Special Collections' graphic, manuscript, and printed materials.
