The 2019 Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C., Award was awarded to Tracy C. Bergstrom, director of the Specialized Collection Services Program for the Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame, for her outstanding professional contributions.
The Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C., Award is given annually to a library faculty member who has contributed significantly to the Notre Dame community and to the library profession through personal scholarship and involvement in professional associations.
The following citation was shared as a part of Tracy Bergstrom’s nomination during the 2019 President’s Dinner and Awards Ceremony for Faculty on May 21, 2019, on the campus of Notre Dame.
Tracy arrived at Notre Dame in 2007 as special collections librarian for digital projects and later assumed subject responsibility for Italian studies, a position she still holds. At the same time, she has become a leader within the Hesburgh Libraries, first as co-director of the Digital Initiatives and Scholarship Program and currently as director of Specialized Collection Services, which incorporates Conservation and Preservation Services; University Archives; Digital Access, Projects, and Outreach; and Rare Books and Special Collections. Described as a “model of collegiality” who encourages individuals to “develop a personal stake” in their work, she has authored articles and book chapters as well as numerous grant proposals, including one that recently led to a significant award from the Mellon Foundation for a joint project with the Snite Museum of Art.
The Hesburgh Libraries community is pleased to see Tracy recognized for the notable contributions she has made to the Libraries, the University of Notre Dame, and the library profession as a whole over the past twelve years.
“Tracy’s many contributions to Notre Dame and to the Hesburgh Libraries have significantly advanced the Libraries’ mission of Connecting People to Knowledge,” said Diane Parr Walker, Edward H. Arnold University Librarian. “Her many accomplishments both locally and in the profession offer models of what it means to be a member of the library faculty at Notre Dame. We’re proud of Tracy and congratulate her on winning this year’s Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C., Award.”
