Leslie L. Morgan, Africana Studies and Education Librarian, has been honored as a member of the University of Notre Dame’s 2022 All-Faculty Team. Morgan is the first Hesburgh Libraries faculty member to receive this prestigious honor.
Morgan is one of six faculty members from across campus who have been chosen for their excellence in research, teaching, and service to the University. Provost John T. McGreevy honors a different All-Faculty Team member at each home football game throughout the season; Morgan’s recognition ceremony is during the ND vs. UNLV game on Saturday, October 22. Information about each member is also featured on the Office of the Provost All-Faculty Team webpage.
“We received a roster of exceptional scholars from all of the colleges and schools as well as the Hesburgh Libraries, and all of the faculty have shown excellence in research, teaching, and service to the University. I hope you will join me in congratulating these deserving colleagues," said the Charles and Jill Fischer Provost John T. McGreevy.
Morgan serves as the Chair of the Diversity Committee for the Hesburgh Libraries. In this role, she keeps library employees informed of campus, regional, and national diversity initiatives. As Africana Studies Librarian, she also has a significant impact on academic and research outcomes with the Africana Studies Department in the College of Arts and Letters. Morgan embodies the epitome of an embedded librarian and works closely with students in the Africana Studies program — conducting frequent, in-depth research consultations with young scholars who go on to complete senior theses and/or capstone projects. Her impact on students is often noted by students competing for the University of Notre Dame Library Research Award.
Morgan is a member of the ND Campus Black Caucus, the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, the ND Black Faculty and Staff Association, the ND Black Alumni Association, and the ND Black Student Association. Her membership on these committees provides the Hesburgh Libraries with a powerful connection to DEI work being done by students, staff, and faculty on campus.
“Leslie Morgan’s deep commitment to DEI, service excellence, and student success long has been vital to the current and future success of the Hesburgh Libraries. Further, Ms. Morgan’s work exemplifies and manifests the University’s renewed commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion as those values are outlined in the Board of Trustees’ Task Force Report on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in 2021,” said K. Matthew Dames, Edward H. Arnold Dean, Hesburgh Libraries and University of Notre Dame Press.
Congratulations to Leslie Morgan for receiving this award.
