Food and Drink Policy
Careful and responsible food and drink consumption contributes to a safe and respectful atmosphere for research and study. Please respect our hard-working custodial team members, your fellow students, and our library resources when consuming food and beverages in the Hesburgh Library building.
No alcohol is permitted in any Hesburgh Library building or branch locations.
Food and covered drinks for individual consumption are permitted within library spaces unless otherwise indicated, provided the following guidelines are followed:
- Request cleaning supplies at the 1st Floor service desks.
- Report spills to any library team member.
- Recycle and dispose of waste as appropriate.
- Greet food delivery people at an exterior entrance (they will not know how to find you).
No food or drink is permitted in the following Hesburgh Library locations:
- Hesburgh Library scanning stations, microfilm machines/viewing stations, and multimedia spaces
- Medieval Institute
- Rare Books & Special Collections
- University Archives
Users violating this policy will be asked to remove the food and/or drink from the area. Unattended food and/or drink openly displayed in public areas may be confiscated and discarded.
