The 2023 Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C., Award was awarded to Alan Krieger, theology and philosophy librarian at the Hesburgh Libraries, for his extraordinary professional contributions. The Foik Award is given annually to a library faculty member who has contributed significantly to the Notre Dame community and the library profession through personal scholarship and substantive engagement in professional associations.
The following citation was shared as a part of Alan Krieger’s nomination.
Known by his colleagues to have endless dedication in support of scholarship, Krieger has provided intellectual leadership for the faculty and students in the Department of Theology. His career has also been notable beyond the Notre Dame campus for his leadership and participation in the community of theological libraries and associations, including the American Theological Library Association, the Chicago Area Theological Library Association, and the Catholic Research Resources Alliance.
“We are gratified that Alan’s work for nearly four decades is being recognized in this way. Alan has developed a world‐class theology collection, ensuring that Notre Dame has one of the world’s best libraries in the study of theology and church history. Similarly, he has built a rare book collection that makes Notre Dame a destination for scholars around the world,” said K. Matthew Dames, Edward H. Arnold Dean, Hesburgh Libraries and University of Notre Dame Press.
The Hesburgh Libraries community is pleased to see Alan Krieger recognized for his notable contributions to the Libraries, the University of Notre Dame, and the library profession.
