The 2018 winner of the Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C. Award for library faculty came to Notre Dame in 2011 as a subject specialist librarian for Latin American, Iberian, and Latino Studies. Over the next six years, he made notable contributions to both the Libraries and the wider University. As a subject specialist, he worked closely with several academic units and collaborated with one to obtain a major Library Acquisitions Grant. Within the Libraries, he was promoted to a role supervising faculty and served on important library committees and initiatives. His interpersonal skills were exceptional. He was nominated for this award by graduate students who called him a “very generous scholar” and “a fundamental force in our intellectual and professional development.” The University of Notre Dame is proud to present the Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C. Award, posthumously, to Dr. John "David" Dressing, who succumbed to cancer on December 18, 2017.
