Catholic Studies
The Hesburgh Libraries and University Archives provide access to exceptional resources and services to support Catholic Studies research at Notre Dame for the campus community and the world.
Premier collections are held in University Archives, Rare Books & Special Collections, and the general collection in the Hesburgh Library. Collections, including book and journal holdings, cover the history of the Catholic Church, especially Catholics in America. Catholic pamphlets, Catholic newspapers, and parish histories are particular strengths in Hesburgh Library. Print and digital materials such as books, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, ebooks, and parish histories can be located by searching the ND Catalog, University Archives, and the Finding Aids for Specialized Collections tool. Archival collections, manuscripts, and artifactual collections can be explored through University Archives and in the Finding Aids for Specialized Collections tool.
The librarian for Catholic Studies, Jean McManus, provides research consultations to students and faculty in one-on-one, small group, or classroom settings. Her expertise includes finding and making sense of sources, narrowing a research question, and engaging with primary source materials.
