Structure Editor

The Structure Editor (accessed via clicking the "Explore Substances" link) requires Java to be enabled on your web browser in order to run. You may verify if Java is working in your web browser by visiting the Java test page at http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp, or try our solutions for known issues with either Firefox or Mac OS X Lion.

Firefox: If you are experiencing problems with Java while using the Firefox browser, check to make sure the Java plug-in is enabled within Firefox. Open the Firefox Options (or Preferences on Mac) then under the General tab click the "Manage Add-ons" button. In the Add-ons Manager window that opens, click Plugins (located on the left side), then look through the list and locate the relevant Java plug-in ("Java(TM) Platform SE ..." on Windows, or "Java Applet Plug-in ..." on Mac). If the plug-in is disabled, click the "Enable" button and restart Firefox.

Mac OS X Lion: An April 12, 2012 update for Mac OS X Lion disabled the Java web plug-in, which is required for the structure drawing editor to run. To enable the plugin, open the "Java Preferences" application (located at Applications -> Utilities -> Java Preferences). Check the box next to "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications" and close the Java Preferences window. In order for the change to take effect you must restart your web browser.
