I. General Information
Books to be supplied should include all original titles of a scholarly nature (including bibliographies) published in the countries of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic concerning these countries, the Hispanic Caribbean Region, Latin America, and Spain which meet the subject specifications listed below. Do not include books in languages other than Spanish (e.g., Indian dialects). However, please notify us of any such publications that you consider outstanding.
Specifically excluded are periodicals and journals translations into Spanish, off prints and separates, reprints, pamphlets, brochures, popular dictionaries, juvenile literature, travel guides, and primary- and secondary-school textbooks (but note II B below). University-level textbooks may be included if of scholarly value.
Electronic literary texts or new printed editions which are accompanied by a CD-ROM or floppy disks can be included only if they can be loaded on the University of Notre Dame's servers without any type of restrictions.
Publications supplied are to be priced no higher than the trade price that is current at the time of shipment to the Library.
II. Subject Specifications
A. Social Sciences
1st Priority (not in any order): History, political science (particularly works on political parties, democratization and elections) church/state relations, economics and sociology.
2nd Priority: Anthropology, ethnology, biography, gender studies, agrarianism and agrarian reform, labor movements, industrialization/development/globalization, banking and finance, foreign trade, government policy and planning, and national summaries or abstracts of census reports.
Exclude: Geography, education, psychology, and archaeology.
Include: Fiction, poetry, literary collections, literary criticism, literary history, drama, philosophy, linguistics, religion (ONLY when they deal with Hispanic life and thought - No theoretical works), art, theoretical works in philosophy and religion, music, cultural studies and religion.
Exclude: Children's literature.
C. Natural Sciences:
Exclude: Geology, medicine, agronomy, zoology and botany provided the work has a bearing on the social sciences and purely technical studies.
The University of Notre Dame has special interest in the publications of the various Hispanic Caribbean Universities, and the leading research Institutes as well as the principal publishing houses. Due to a working relationship with the Editorial Universidad de Puerto Rico, books by the Editorial will not be included in the approval plan.
IV. Special Cases
A. Please quote before sending any item costing more than the allocated limit per volume.
B. Please quote before sending reprints of earlier works unless a diskette or CD-ROM that can be loaded accompanies the work on the University of Notre Dame’s server without any licensing restrictions.
C. Please do not send imprints that are older than two years, but inform us of their availability.
D. Please quote any items that you consider tohave real value, but which do not fit any of the above subject specifications or which fit subjects normally excluded.
E. Please do not send the first issue only of each new scholarly periodical or journal.
F. Treat monographs in numbered and series as regular monographs.

Please do not hold materials; shipments of 25-75 items are preferable.
