Andean Social Sciences Approval Plan

I. General Information

Books to be supplied should include all original titles of a scholarly nature (including bibliographies) published in the countries of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela (exclude Columbia and Chile) concerning these countries, the Andean Region, Latin America, and Spain which meet the subject specifications listed below. Do not include books in languages other than Spanish (e.g., Indian dialects). However, please notify us of any such publications that you consider outstanding.

Specifically excluded are periodicals and journals translations into Spanish, off prints and separates, reprints, pamphlets, brochures, popular dictionaries, juvenile literature, travel guides, and primary- and secondary-school textbooks.

For works that are accompanied by a CD-ROM or floppy disks, please supply electronic specifications before sending the material. These can be included only if they can be loaded on the University of Notre Dame's servers without any type of restrictions.

 

II. Subject Specifications

A. Social Sciences

1st Priority (not in any order): History, political science (particularly works on political parties, democratization and elections) church/state relations, economics and sociology.

2nd Priority: anthropology, ethnology, biography, agrarianism and agrarian reform, labor movements, industrialization/development/globalization, banking and finance, foreign trade, government policy and planning, and national summaries or abstracts of census reports.

Exclude: Geography, education, psychology, and archaeology.

B. Humanities

Include: Cultural studies and religion (dealing with Hispanic life and particularly the Catholic Church).

Exclude: Fiction, poetry, literary collections, literary criticism, literary history, drama, philosophy, linguistics, religious theoretical works, art, theoretical works in philosophy and religion, music, and children's literature.

C. Natural Sciences

Exclude all materials in the Natural Sciences

 

III. Publications

The University of Notre Dame has special interest in the publications of the various Andean Universities, and the leading research Institutes as well as the principal publishing houses.

 

IV. Special Cases

A. Please quote before sending any item costing more than the allocated limit per volume.

B. Please quote any items that you consider to have real value, but which do not fit any of the above subject specifications or which fit subjects normally excluded.

C. Please do not send new scholarly periodical or journal literature.

D. Treat monographs in numbered and series as regular monographs.

The symbols listed below are to be used to indicate your action on the individual items in the bibliographies. They are to be placed in the margin immediately beside the item concerned. Do not underline any titles. Please do not use any other symbols other than those shown below. Your careful compliance with these instructions will be greatly appreciated.
